Actor/singer Justine Timberlake is getting some negative feed back about his performance in the 2018 Super Bowl 52 after he performed a tribute to the late Prince.

Justin Timberlakes Super Bowl halftime performance drew mixed feelings across the Twitterverse, but there’s no denying that Prince fans were not happy with JT’s tribute to the iconic Minneapolis musician, who died in 2016.

Timberlake performed a number of his own hits during the set, but included a performance of Prince’s I Would Die 4 U with a giant projection of the artist on a large billowing sheet behind the stage.

But some Prince fans took to Twitter to slam the projection, citing a 1998 interview Prince did with Guitar World in which he said he despised the use of holograms and felt that it was demonic. Although technically it was not a hologram, that didn’t stop fans from criticizing Timberlake.

Fans also brought up the fact that Justin and Prince did not get along and felt that Justin was being disrespectful.
The feud between Justin Timberlake and Prince started over comments the late and great Prince made about one of Justin’s first big hit, Sexy Back, in 2006. According to TMZ, at the time, Prince said: “For whoever is claiming that they are bringing sexy back, sexy never left!”

Justin, who then went ahead and included some diss lyrics just for Prince on Timbaland’s Give It To Me.

The lyrics that Justin sang on the track include: “Could you speak up and stop mu-mumbling? I don’t think you came in clear. ‘When you’re sittin’ on the top/It’s hard to hear you from way up here/Now I saw you tryin’ to act cute on TV. ‘Just let me clear the air… ‘We missed you on the charts last week/Damn, that’s right you wasn’t there/Now if se-sexy never left, then why is everybody on my s***? ‘Don’t hate on me just because you didn’t come up with it.’

Justin also made fun of Prince at the Golden Globes in 2007. He was forced to accept an award on the pop and rock icon’s behalf.  Justin mocked the singer’s height as he Best Original Song on Prince’s behalf getting some big laughs from the room at the time.

Thus Why Prince fans think Justins Tribute was not genuine.
