In light of the current accusations of sexual misconduct, Russell Simmons is stepping down from his business.
On November 19 an article from the Los Angeles Time revealed to the world of sexual allegations against founder of Def Jam Records, Russel Simmons. It was said that in 1991 Simmons sexually violated Jenny Lumet after agreeing to take her home from a restaurant. Lumet claims that Simmons Took her to his house after she repeatedly asked him to take her home.
Lumet wrote Simmons a letter explaining her experience with Simmons. In the letter Lumet was very clear and detailed to what happen that night. She said that on the ride home from work that Simmons offered her he refused to take her home. She claims she repeatedly asked for Simmons to take her home and ended up going to his house. She explained that she was nervous and cooperated with Simmons in fear of him getting Violent. Lumet said that she did have sex with him and left via cab afterwards.
Week prior to Lumets Keri Claussen Khalighi also accused Russell Simmons of sexually assaulting her when she was only 17. She said Bret Ratner sat and watched while Simmons ripped off her cloths and tried to for her to have sex with him. Khalighi said she was looking to Bret Ratner for help but he sat there. Ratner says she never asked for help. After the first assault Khalighi says she took a shower where Simmons then sexually assaulted her again.
Simmons claims that everything that happen that day was completely consensual and with Keri’s full participation. Simmons wrote a statement saying “Abusing women in any way shape or form violates the very core of my being”
He also announced that he will be stepping down from his various business ventures to “Commit myself to personal growth, spiritual learning, and above all listening.
Simmons says “The companies will now be run by a new and diverse generation of extraordinary executives who are moving the culture & consciousness forward.”
