(GEMS RADIO)—Hip Hop may be losing its luster. The only album debuting at number one this year was Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape. According to Rolling Stone, based on chart data on the most consumed albums for the first half of 2023, new hip-hop overall is having a harder time competing with other genres, as well as older rap records.
Figures have been sliding in the past six years or so for the genre in a whole. Drake and Kendrick Lamar are two rappers keeping the genre alive with their most recent releases. Even though hip hop is still a force to reckoned with, it has been losing some clout this year.
