(GEMS RADIO)—Akon is explaining why he passed on signing rapper Moneybagg Yo.

In a recent interview with Vlad TV, Akon said this: “Moneybagg had a record bro, till this day if he release it I always said that was gonna be his biggest record, it’s called ‘I Need A Plug’ okay I heard that record I went f*ckin’ crazy. I was like, ‘Oh this record is out of here this kid is gone,’ that’s what convinced me to what it was.”

Akon, though, had business to attend to overseas. By the time he came back, there was already a big buzz surrounding Moneybagg Yo. Akon says,“By the time I came back he was already moving on mixtape circuits, but then again I didn’t want to be dealing with rappers.”

Moneybagg Yo shot to number one on the Billboard Album charts in 2021 with A Gangsta’s Pain, which sold roughly 110,000 total first-week album-equivalent album units.
