(GEMS RADIO)—Tyler Perry has bought BET and VH1 from Paramount. The actor, producer, and entrepreneur has possibly sealed the deal.  Bob Johnson founded BET in 1980 for under represented communities. Johnson then sold BET to Viacom in 2000 for $2.3 billion. Perry helped launch BET+ in 2019. He apparently bought BET for a cool $400 Million.

Although, reports may have jumped the gun with the story, Culture Central tweeted the following, “For the first time in 21 years, BET is black owned again, and for the first time ever VH1 is now black owned! Tyler Perry just made history as the first African American to buy two major television networks,” the tweet read.

If reports are confirmed, Perry may switch the network back to original content.
